ASTRONOMY CAMPOUT WEEKEND!
We're currently planning a family Camping and Astronomy event at Parker
Canyon Lake for the Memorial Day Weekend (Sat May 27th thru Mon May
29th). This will be a joint venture with the Tucson Amateur Astronomy
Association and the Raytheon Astronomy and Telescope Making Club!
For those of you who don't already know, Parker Canyon Lake is a man-made
lake in southern Arizona within about two hours drive of Tucson
(more info).
We've reserved the group camping area but that also means we're limited to the
first 50 RSVPs. There are many other camp sites available but they're
first come first serve. This should be a very fun and exciting event for
all members of your family. We'll enjoy the outdoors by day and set up
telescopes and enjoy the heavens at night.
The cost for participation
will be about $10 per person for the three planned group meals and an
additional entrance fee of $10 a night per car load ($5 if you've got a
Golden Age National Parks Passport). Please contact us right away if you
and your family are interested.
PHOENIX AIAA - APRIL DINNER MEETING - 787 DREAMLINER
Students and Professionals:
Our next dinner meeting will be held on April 20th. This month, Ron
Bengelink of ASU will be giving a presentation on the new Boeing 787
Dreamliner.
Boeing is now finishing the detailed design phase of their latest new
commercial airplane design, the 787. The 787 is a state of the art
airplane, with unprecedented engineering design, and will be
significantly more advanced than previous commercial airliners. It is
intended to replace the 767 and compete directly with the recently
announced Airbus A-350. The 787 is surprising most analysts by its
popularity in the marketplace - about 250 orders from all over the world
even though it is still about two years from entry into service.
Mr. Bengelink serves as the Engineer in Residence to the ASU Department
of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. He retired from Boeing
Commercial Airplanes in August of 2003 after 39 years as an engineer and
engineering executive.
