- Dustin Grissom to take over at Treasurer
- Matt to officially add Dustin to the roster as
soon as his AIAA contact info is updated!
- We have just over $1180.35 in checking
account as of 8-31-07.
- Matt wrote a check to Sara for $360 that covers
most of her expenses. I’ll send her
another check for the difference.
- Matt to receive a check from the AIAA for
$3685.3.
- Cat I rebate = $2110.30
- Cat II Award = $1900.00
- Section Insurance = -$325.00
- Matt reimbursed Amy $20.00 for DBF Snacks.
- Matt will write a check for Softball game
expenses.
- Field & ramada rental ~$42 + ~$14
- Shirts = ~40shirts * $12/per shirt (+ tax)
- Food & Beverage = ~$200 bucks (I guess)

HOMELAND SECURITY:

Conference in Monterey
was a success. AIAA co-sponsored event.

It was at the
Navy Post Graduate School.

It’ll happen
again in Monterey next year. Week before labor day.
KIDS CLUB:
- No one asked for a scholarship. We’re not reaching out to our
targets. A third are repeats or
siblings. We have a waiting list of
about 5 kids.
- $40 for seven sessions. Sara has $1145.00 in checks from Kids
Club enrollment fees. Matt will
deposit into the account ASAP.
- October is Space by Brian Ewenson at PASM.
- Luna Fa to do DNA in November.
- December is open.
- January is Serina with “Math Magic”.
- Don McCarthy in Feb with “Astronomy”
- Don Lacy to do delta darts in March. – Brian has
agreed to let us use the Museum
- April is Steve Lubliner (hopefully). We have no confirmation.
- Two HS students have agreed to help out as
volunteers. We still need a couple
Adults to volunteer for each session.
ARIZONA SCIENCE TEACHER ASSOCIATION MEETING:
- 18th and 19th of October.
- Brian suggested we may be able to team up with
PASM and split costs. Marc from the
Phoenix section will also be involved.
- Doug has requested Membership stuff
- Sara has requested educator membership stuff
- Sara has requested several AIAA items as giveaways. Marc from Phoenix will split costs for
give-aways.
RAC Meeting:
- We need to be more formal with the minutes. They need to be approved and distributed
since we’re a non-profit. We need
to ask for edits and changes. Ask if we need to see if send it to the
region IV directors.
- Webpage needs to be kept up to date. Updated officers and put AIAA mission on
there.
- Retaining membership was the focus of the
meeting. Get members on committees
to get them involved. Find things for them to do.
- Communicate often and with a purpose.
- Student Paper conference April in 2008 at
Arizona State University.
- $8000 of Cat III money available.
- AIAA is under spent on speaker reimbursement
- Sara met a guy in Phoenix who might make a good
speaker.
- We need to contact members who are expired.
- Matt to talk to John Rose about a fellowship internship
in Washington.
- CVD is April 15th and 16th.
500 available.
- Region VI is Colloquium Feb 16th. Matt should go.
- Public Policy workshop at the Reno Conference.
- More nominations for associate fellows. We need more people to get their senior
member upgrades.
- Next RAC meeting should be sometime in January.
ENGINEERS WEEK:
- Doug will
try to attend a meeting.
PASM MUSEUM NEWS:
- October 4th is the 50th
anniversary of the space age. 6
speakers lined up. We may be able
to get them to do Lecture events in the future. 9 Different Organizations
participating. Hands on rotational
stations. Mini missions in the challenger
session. TAAA will be doing
astronomical viewings. There will
be food. Expecting 200 – 250.
- Dec 2nd Santa Claus will land at the
Museum.
- 1500 high school kids coming out for Metro.
Education commission 21st century key to learning. March 6th.
- Space Shuttle crew will be out in March.
- A week after ASTA, Brian will be representing
the Museum at the Xprize lunar lander challenge flyoff in Alamagordo. He is also going to be representing us
while we’re there and will give out any info we provide him with.
- Oh the 20th of October the museum
will have exhibits of the University bookstore. Brian to do the space talk twice. It’ll be a good opportunity to highlight
AIAA to UofA students.
- SARSEF March 12th – 14th
at the TCC.
- Huge event around May 17th with Frank
Borman.
- Jim McDivitt and Dave Scott are now on the
Museum Board.
- Supporting the landing of the Mars Lander in
May. At 5 in the evening.
- Matt provided Brian with the tabletop display.
- SR71 conference will likely happen in May.
DISTINGUISHED LECTURE EVENT:
- We should try something the last week of
November or the first two in December.
- Matt to get the Manual.
- Email me back ASAP to choose dates.
SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT:
- On the October 13th. Team of professionals ready to go.
- Santa Cruz River Park from 10 am to 5pm.

STUDENT SECTION NEWS:
- Working on Recruitment. Talking to Junior and Senior classes.
- 6 seniors doing DBF. 5 other members.
- Materials to graduating seniors. Student member applications.
- Matt to find out who the students need to
contact for the “kit”.
- DBF is progressing. Senior design class just got their
projects. Finish the design by the
end of the semester.
- Section to send something to DA so they can do
prop testing.
- $500 from LM for putting up flyers in the AME
building.
- Dom and Nick have the connection for the RMS
money. Matt to find his old
contact.
WEBSITE:
- Added the notice about the annual awards.
- We need to make the Tucson logo is the same size
at the AIAA logo….at least not overpowering the AIAA logo.
AERIAL ROBOTICS:
- Going to send an award to Army Institute of Tech
in India for help during the competition.
- ECE students are working on getting telemetry
from the UAV. Working on pressure
sensing data to be more accurate the GPS.
ASTRONOMY CAMPING TRIP:
- On hold until late a
weekend in May. Location is still
to be determined.
- George suggested
going down to Kitt Peak.
TENTATIVE CALENDAR:
- Glider event in April.
- Doug has a contact at LPL with regard to the
Phoenix program. They are willing
to do tours (control room & briefing).
Perhaps afterwards we can go do a dinner or happy hour or
something.
- Push to do astronomy camp-out in May over a
Raytheon 3 day weekend.
- - Email the Raytheon calendar for next year.
- Distinguished Lecturer at Museum.
- Perhaps another tour from the Museum (AMARC,
A-10s, PINAL).
- - Pick date and time and let Brian know.
- Gunnery Range trip – Matt to ask Ed
Palanek. Brian may be able to help
us.
- Tour of Optics Lab at UofA. – CLOSED.
