KIDS CLUB:
- Two sessions remain. Outside of that it’s over.
- Sara is looking into people for next year.
- Sara sent me a write-up of who spoke, income,
expenses, etc.
WEBSITE:
- Frank adding the soaring flyer.
TREASURER:
- Mary Ellen sent a new check for 4K today.
- Checking account shows us currently at 2451.79.
- Matt to pay bill for pencils and magnets
($48.68)
- We still need a treasurer (Matt to re-contact
Nick Cicchini to see if he’s interested – maybe Anthony Boekman).
- Student section deposited their check.
- Frank needs to deposit his check.
STUDENT DBF:
- Brian, Sara F, and Jane (pre college outreach
coordinator), Stan Powell had another teleconference regarding
incorporating a kids event into the DBF competition.
- Brian agreed to drive the van.
- Any Rice will ride and talk to and monitor the
kids
- There are four sessions of 60 minutes a
piece. (two on Saturday and two on
Sunday).
- Don Lacey has agreed to be available for the
kids.
- Virginia Tech students have agreed to talk to
the kids.
- U of A student section will be on hand to talk
to the kids.
- Sara will email all the teams and let them know
this will be going on.
- Matt to double check on whether Raytheon will
support the tent.
- We will be renting two vans. (We can ask Bruce for Cat III) $240.00
each.
- I received a box of gliders
- Ask Raytheon to provide 30 to 40 bags.
- There will be a follow up session sometime
afterwards. Maybe a school night
near the DBF. Perhaps Friday, May 4th. Don Lacey may do delta darts and do a
competition for them. We’ll need to
reserve some space. Brian will let
us use the Museum.
- All that’s left is to “find the bodies”.

- The Students flew their plane on Sunday.
- Flight went well. Trouble shooting continues but the plane
is in great shape.
AERIAL ROBOTICS:
- Put together a radio controlled blimp for
Physics fun night. They put a
camera on it. Flew the blimp over
the audience and projected the images to a big screen in the front of the
auditorium.
- Frank to bring blimp to May 4th
event.
- Frank’s camera system takes great pictures
during flight. Amazing actually.
- Frank will deposit his check this week.

NEWSLETTER:
- We need a newsletter out April. Articles due May 1st. Include DBF article, Chairs Corner,
Soaring Club Event, & Astronomy Weekend Event, Gene Austin, etc.
BORDER
SECURITY FORUM:
- Everything ran smoothly and they had a good
turnout.
- Now there is planning for one in Monteray.
(August 20th)
SOARING CLUB EVENT:
- President Kate Porter has been very
helpful.
- We’re all set for our event on April 28th.
- Doug will send out an email message to everyone.
- People will be in the sun for hours. You’ll need a hat and sun screan. Not a wide brimmed hat. Probably a baseball hat.
- We should meet for lunch at the Sky Rider café
at the Marana airport.
- We may want to carpool from there. No credit cards. Cash or check made out to AIAA Tucson.
- We’ll have around 21 if we get about 7 students.
- Jack Stebe will bring a video of the U2.
- - Sara will give up an AIAA baseball cap as a
gift to Jack.
- No smoking (its in a national monument).
- Students and officers only pay $30.00 for
flights.
- Showing up at 2:00 PM is okay.
PASM Joe Engle Talk:
- Sunday April 29th at 11am
- $5 charge for people to get in.
- 90 minute presentation.
- Brian to send me a blurb to send to the
membership.
- 40th anniversary of the X-15.
Camping Trip:
- All the places Sara
has checked are first come first serve.
The only place we know that is available is Parker Canyon Lake.
- There is a place
out by Oracle that may work. “Oracle State Park”
- Nothing available
on Mount Lemon for the weekend of April 13th. Weekend of May 11-13th is our
next best option. “Mother’s Day
weekend”. Somewhere up Mount Lemon
or Similar. (Matt to email names of locations). Sara can find whatever she likes on
whatever weekend she likes.
- We should make sure
we have an announcement to go out ASAP with the soaring email.
Action Items:
- Gene Austin’s
expenses may still be outstanding
- Matt to contact
Sherry and Gene and work out the funding.
This needs to be handled ASAP.
- Brian needs a
private pilot who would be willing to take a 6 year old boy who is dying
of Brian cancer on a flight. A
point will be with him. “Dreams
take Flight” program. Need
something in the next week or so.
