KIDS CLUB:
- Next Saturday is Kids Club. Whoever we had planned canceled. Sara is trying Don Lacy and a few other
Kids Club “all stars”. We may have
to cancel.
- Steve Lubliner to do Rockets on April 28th. Matt to shoot video of the event.

TREASURER:
- Mary Ellen to send a new check for 4K.
- Checking account shows us currently at ~3000.00.
- Matt to pay bill for pencils and magnets

- We still need a treasurer (Matt to re-contact
Nick Cicchini to see if he’s interested).
- I wrote checks Student section and Pima Aerial
Robotics for their competitions.
Matt wrote checks for Physics Fun Buss.
Sara to go to RLC in
Cincinnati in July. Matt to see if
Raytheon will send him.
STUDENT DBF:
- Brian, Sara F, and Jane (pre college outreach
coordinator), Stan Powell had a teleconference regarding incorporating a
kids event into the DBF competition.
- Find 3 or four groups of about 10 to 12 middle
school students and teachers who have the interest, potential, etc. to
bring out to TIMPA.
- Orientation, education, competition, on the
way. Let them see the competition.
- Have them talk to engineers and students, etc.
- Do some afterwards “sum up” to inspire interest
in aeronautics and aerospace. Put
together a speaking point (10 to 15) regarding the event. Brian E. to go out to each school to
pitch with a hands on activity.
- If we want to rent a van, we can get Cat III
funds.
- Liability concerns come up.
- Amy Rice is very interested and would be
available to participate.
- Boys and Girls club, Miss Adventures, & Mesa
- Cross representative of society (girls, American
Indians, Hispanics, etc.)
- Add some from our Kids Club.
- Contact someone in Raytheon to see if we can set
up a tent (table and some chairs for 12 kids and a presentation). Russ Althoff is organizing the
event. Matt to contact Russ and see
if Raytheon can contribute “things for the kids”. Self supporting on our side (outside of
the canopy).
- We need to get someone to man the video camera.
(maybe Frank?)
- The AIAA bullitein would like an article
regarding the DBF. (synopsis of how
it went).
- Wings came together well. Students need some help for fuselage
fabrication. Matt to find someone
who would be available this weekend.
They’ll be ready to do control setup next week for that.
AERIAL ROBOTICS:
- Frank and students are working on the camera
system.
- Modified an off the shelf camera for computer
control.
- Experimenting with taking few pictures at a high
resolution.
Sara says “I’ll tell you
boy, since they invented that telephone thing, things sure have changed…”
MEMBERSHIP REPORTS:

emails to expiring educator associates.
No response came back.
NEWSLETTER:
- We need a newsletter out April. Articles due April 1st. Include DBF article, Chairs Corner,
Soaring Club Event, & Astronomy Weekend Event, Gene Austin, etc.
BORDER
SECURITY FORUM:
SOARING CLUB EVENT:
- Soaring club will do an event on for a group of
12 or more. They’d prefer a non
club flying day (week day).
- Raytheon is a big target. We should send out an announcement
ASAP.
- Matt to ask for RSVPs. Send out email this week.
- Matt got manual from Doug….Matt to make a flyer
and send out by Friday.
- Doug’s neighbor wants to go.
- The rate will be $85 per person.
- Prof. Herman Fasel is a soaring club member and
would be interested in helping us plan the event.
- Doug was thinking of April 27th. (summer
is better flying but is more turbulent.)
- Doug knows an ex U2 pilot who is a soaring club
member who could prepare a talk at the same event.
- We can ask for support
Camping Trip:
- Nothing available
on Mount Lemon for the weekend of April 13th. Weekend of May 11-13th is our
next best option. “Mother’s Day
weekend”. Somewhere up Mount Lemon
or Similar. (Matt to email names of locations). Sara can find whatever she likes on
whatever weekend she likes.
- We should make sure
we have an announcement to go out ASAP with the soaring email.
