KIDS CLUB:
- Amy Rice has the key to open the doors for
February 24th.
- - Matt to get the key back from Amy.
- February will be Physics fun. They’ll charge us a flat rate.
- Still nothing for March. William Bickle might do something an
acoustic. There is also something
on Garbage that may work out.
- April is Rockets with Steve Lubliner.
WEBSITE:
- Frank posted the newsletter.
- Matt to check with geocities to see if we can
get the other page down.
TREASURER:
- Un deposited check from AIAA national
(~$4000.00) Matt to see if Pat
Craine has it.
- Checking account shows us currently at ~3000.00.
- Matt to pay bill for pencils and magnets
($48.68)
- We still need a treasurer (Matt to re-contact
Nick Cicchini to see if he’s interested).
STUDENT DBF:
- Students called Desert Aircraft and they offered
anything for purchase.
- Matt to try to find contact to see if they could
get a sponsorship.
- Frank to ask Robert Wagner if the students could
get a discounted motor & equipment.
- Student section gave a peer review a couple
weeks ago.
- Competition is in Tucson.
- Students want to buy a new motor for testing and
as a spare.
- They run about $300.00
- Students still need an RC pilot. They will be ready to fly by the end of
February. Matt to ask people he
knows.
- Students get money from AME and from the College
of Engineering. Money from the
college won’t be available until April which is too late to contribute to
the competition. ~2K is expected
from that source.
- They’re going to start building this
weekend.
- They have 400 and are expecting an addition 200
but they require about ~$500.00 more.
AERIAL ROBOTICS:
- Frank got 5 students from ECE498A (senior
capstone design course).
- Sponsors typically provide projects and
financial backing for the students.
- Object of project is to provide the ground with
data from airborne camera platform.
- This is a good way of recruiting students.
- The team needs about $2000K; $500 for travel for 1 or 2 students and $1500
for electronics.
- Some equipment has come from electric jet
factory. Most of the funding is
from Frank himself.
- Course runs for two semesters. Primary focus is to prepare competition
at the end of July. Includes travel
to Ft Benning,Georgia.
MEMBERSHIP REPORTS:

fill out a form and get recommendations from other associate fellows or higher.
DISTINGUISHED LECTURER EVENT & E-Week:
Doug
to get an AIAA table for 10. Section
will cover costs. We need names. Gene and his wife can sit with us. We can invite the fellows and any of us of
course.

Foothills mall
went well. Didn’t seem to be as many as
last time. Doug handed out a lot of
pamphlets and planes and pencils. Doug
thinks the pencils are really popular.

Hands on things
are really popular. We don’t attract
much attention without the hands on aspect.

Doug was there
from 9:30 until 2:00….Frank showed up to help out.
NEWSLETTER:
- Email newsletter went out on Feb 3rd?
- We should get a new newsletter out by April.
BORDER
SECURITY FORUM:
- Feb 20-22 for Ft. Huachuca. for Border Security.
- Kevin is going to be involved the whole time and
will not make our events.
- Kevin gave us a flyer to distribute.
- Not clear if we have a roll in the goings on.
SOARING CLUB EVENT:
- Soaring club will do an event on for a group of
12 or more. They’d prefer a non
club flying day (week day).
- Raytheon is a big target. We should send out an announcement
ASAP.
- Matt to ask for RSVPs. Send out email this week.
- Matt got manual from Doug….Matt to make a flyer
and send out by Friday.
- Doug’s neighbor wants to go.
- The rate will be $85 per person.
- Prof. Herman Fasel is a soaring club member and
would be interested in helping us plan the event.
- Doug was thinking of April 27th.
(summer is better flying but is more turbulent.)
- Doug knows an ex U2 pilot who is a soaring club
member who could prepare a talk at the same event.
- We can ask for support
Camping Trip:
- April 13th
looks like a dark weekend.
- Somewhere up Mount
Lemon or Similar. (Matt to email names of locations).
- George is
willing….he just wants someone to help shop.
- Include an
announcement in the February email.
Art Contest:
- We’d like to sponsor an art/writing contest to
send out to local kids. We could
set up a cash prize and get a local astronaut or similar to judge. Sara to look into it.
