Meeting Minutes for September 2006

 

Next meeting is Tuesday, October 3rd at El Parador at 6:00 PM

 

ATTENDEES: 

Matt Angiulo, Frank Manning, Doug May, Sara Falconer, Amy Rice

 

KIDS CLUB:

  • Don McCarthy in October (liquid Nitrogen)
  • Larry Leboski (works in lunar lab) wrote a handbook on how to put a teacher program together for our section.  He’ll do something relating to meteorites, astronomy, etc.
  • Brian Ewingson will do an aviation session at March.
  • April is Rockets with Steve Lubliner.
  • William Bickle has offered to do something in acoustics.
  • Melissa Williams has moved and is no longer our contact.
  • Star lab is not available
  • We may be able to fill all the spots if Chris Dicenza can be contacted.
  • We have a new flyer.
  • Cost will increase to $40 a student.
  • We need someone responsible for the January and the February sessions.
  • 18 students paid and 3 on the waiting list.  
  • We have at least 20 signed up.
  • Sara is open to ideas for another session.

 

WEBSITE:

  • Kids Club application is now on the site.
  • Sara suggests back buttons to help navigate the site.

 

TREASURER:

·        We paid for section insurance for $325.

·        New PO box $30…..We have a new address!

·        We got a bill for web hosting……$89.00 for 1 year.

·        Checking account has $4K

·        We should put about 25% in a CD or money market.

·        Matt to give Pat checks from Kids Club. (17 checks at 40).

·        Sara will need 20 dollars to cover the refund to the 4 people who paid 45.

 

 AERIAL ROBOTICS

  • Way point tracking is working well.
  • There are problems with accuracy.
  • Frank may be giving a presentation to the TERRA program. Tucson experimenters radio and robotics association.
  • One new student this semester. 
  • One guy from TERRA wants to participate

 

MEMBERSHIP REPORTS:

·        Sara updated our list with new members.   We should contact them and try to get them involved.

 

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE:

  • Student/professional Softball tournament in Fall (Matt to follow up) late October or early November (4th,11th, or 18th).
  • Camping trip weekend – Spring (Sara to follow up)
  • Ball Park Event.  (Thursty Thursdays) before the season ends (October)?
  • October 28th BBQ softball thing with costumes or November 11th.
  • Tour of something on Campus. (Optics Department).
  • At least one Distinguished Lecturer (Matt to get speaker)
    • Matt to contact Ola and bring up the Border Security Forum.
    • One for Huachuca in January
    • One for regular membership (think about women, men, young professionals, etc.)
    • Look for a woman DL to come speak at Raytheon.
    • Maybe get Sarsef? Sara to look up.
    • Target Young Professionals and do a speaker on career development.
    • Definitely another event with ASME.
  • We should peruse the glider event (perhaps target for October).
  • We should do a spring BBQ at Tangerine.
  • Could we hold a Mixer at the Titan Missile Museum and have tours.


BORDER SECURITY FORUM:

  • Kolbe can’t come and neither can Governor Napolitano.
  • We’re pushing to get Frank Neverette from the governor’s office.
  • Get someone who is in charge of SPI on the government side.  Then find someone who wins the contract and get them to speak.
  • Pat Craine got no response from CAP – We need Kelly Sinnock to help us.
  • Fort Huachuca is still in flux.  It looks positive though. 
  • Event is now on January 16-18th or the 23rd-25th.
  • We need 5 or 6 really big names to come in.
  • Maybe someone at Army National guard.
  • Find people from department of homeland security
  • Perhaps DHS people moderating panels.
  • Border Patrol technical people.
  • We need to identify one person to coordinate this.
  • One hour intro, one 2 hour speaker block till noon.  Break for lunch.  Then do two, two hour, speaker blocks.  On last day to a 2 hour wrap up session.
  • We need to keep working throughout the month via email. 

 

MISC:

  • We need more people…we should seriously look into working with Phoenix to plan events.
  • We should go down the membership list and see if there are people we can approach to help us plan events.
  • We can have a student come out and participate in our officer meetings.
  • We should do the e-newsletter. As Sara suggests.  Ask for feedback on schedule and more votes. URLs to the webpage.
  • We may want to follow up with student section members that graduate.  We should do personal follow-ups.  Try to get them involved.
