Meeting Minutes for July
2006
Next meeting is Thursday August 17th
at El Parador at 6:00 PM
ATTENDEES:

KIDS CLUB:
- Susan Brew is not prepared
to answer questions regarding hosting Kids Club at LPL.
- 1 session is setup……Frank
hasn’t picked a date.
- Steve Lubliner will do
another rocket session.
- Steve Ratts will do an
astronomy one
- We’ll try to get the Flandrau
representative back.
- Maybe Physics Factory for
another session.
- We should try to find
something new.
- It’s currently $35 a
student but we can up the price since we spent more on supplies then we
brought in.
WEBSITE:
- New officers list on the
webpage.
- Job openings on the
webpage.
- We can allow members to
post job requests and resume’s on the webpage.
- Frank to look into
possibilities on resume and job posting.
TREASURER:

Pat corrected the budget and we
signed it. I’ll scan and send tomorrow.

Pat will arrange a renew of our
mailbox or get a new one.

Checking account has $4407.26
·
We should put about 25% in a CD
or money market.
AERIAL ROBOTICS
- Franks going to the
competition in a couple weeks.
- He’s shooting for
completing Level 1.
- Are we going to budget
student projects?
- We could make groups send
in budgets and requests and then we can award some money to the best as
we see fit.
- We could make it like a
competition. Maybe we could use it to get donations and whatnot.
- We should make this a
formal program.
- Maybe some amount will go
to Pima and the Student Section and then the rest will go into the
competition.
- We can give Pima Aerial
Robotics Club $500.00 to cover travel expenses as the first winner of some
grand program.
- Turn this into a press
release.
E-NEWSLETTER:
- We should do the
e-newsletter. As Sara suggests. Ask for feedback on schedule and more
votes. Urls to the webpage.
BORDER SECURITY FORUM:
- AIAA is starting a
homeland security program committee
- Use this to get
connections to other organizations
- Organization of Old Crows
(electronic Warfare)
- Crows want to do a
symposium in Tucson in October.
- Get San Diego, Tucson
Section, New Mexico, Texas, and maybe Phoenix
- Crows does all the
registration, hotels, and etc.
- Crows agreed to give money
to the section. Brian Ewingson has set up space at Pima. Pima would
charge 10K-20K
- We’re shooting for 130
people. Low entrance cost would be $250.00 a head. We could also sell
display booths for local companies and government organizations. Free for
the government.
- Use this as a way to get
funds to the sections and the program committee
- We need to line up a good
program with good speakers.
- Tuesday Wednesday, and
Thursday Morning
- October 10th,
11th, and 12th.
- Maybe start with a
Distinguished Lecturer. Have it be a keynote and open it to the section.
- Want to have a big band.
- First session will be
something from Policy mentioning what the government wants to accomplish
for the money.
- The next session would be
the people on the ground (the people doing the work) talk about what
they’re able to do.
- Then we note the mismatch
between what’s wanted and what’s available.
- Then we bring in DOD
centers say how they can help bridge the gap.
- Last day have a panel
discussion.
- Contact National Guard,
Border Patrol, and Civil Air Patrol for speakers
- Give this a month and try
to pull in speakers. Contact San Diego (Kevin Burns) and coordinate
planning.
- Pat to try to get a
speaker from Civil Air Patrol
- Ask Kelly for contact
information.
- Sara to try to get
Grijalva.
- Matt to try distinguished
Lecturers and look for National Guard and Army
- Kevin to provide Sara with
a writeup, with mission statement
- Kevin to attend the next
set of meetings,
- Kevin to provide Matt with
contact information.
- Kevin to contact Fort Huachuca for guy to talk about capabilities.
