Meeting Minutes for March 2006
Next meeting is Tuesday, May 2nd.
El Parador at 6:00 PM
ATTENDEES:
Matt
Angiulo, Sara Falconer, Frank Manning, Maren McRae
TREASURER:
- Account Balance ~$2375.37 minus bank fees
- Sara has $35 to deposit from new Kids Club
members.
- Sara also has receipts for $19.98 and $6.00 that
need to be reimbursed.
- John Keller will submit a request for funds for
his ice and his dirt.
- Matt has a receipt for $111.20 for newsletter
stamps.
- Steve Lubliner received a check for ($6/kid) $200
for Oct Rocket Session.
KIDS CLUB:
- March 25th was Mars - John Keller is teaching
- Greatest Kids Club ever
- Lots of hands on things
- Played a game
- Leaving for Cal State
(which is sad)
- Went to lunar lab and watched the first images
come in from the Mars Orbiter!
- Steve Ratts was the only helper that showed up.
- April 22nd is Rockets (with eggs).
- Maren can help out.
- It’ll cost about $200.00 total.
- No word from SMART.
- Gentleman from solar astronomy has pictures and
wants to be added to our mailing list.
- Ken Rightler will be as PASM April 12th.
STUDENT SECTION:
- Meeting on Monday to show off the plane.
- Asked for money.
WEBSITE:
- Webpage setup (www.aiaatucson.com)
- Still waiting on contract.
- We’ll pay for the full year.
- We have a contract with
- Frank talked to a student that runs websites who
would be willing to set
- Us up with one…..8 bucks a month or 89 a year.
It’d be hosted somewhere in Phoenix. We’ll get our own domain name.
- Frank to ask on support….contract is upcoming.
- Site should be linked on national…..email that
when finished.
NEWSLETTER:
- Real newsletter articles need to be finished by
the 12thof May
- John needs to be done by the 19th
- Raytheon needs to be done by the 22nd
- Newsletter will be out by the 30th
- In the meantime there’ll be an email newsletter
that’ll go out on the 15th of April
- Articles in by the 10th
- Ask about updated mailing addresses if haven’t
received email
- Ask members to forward to their colleagues who
might not be receiving our correspondence
TUCSON SOARING CLUB EVENT:
- No progress on the event. Doug to pursue
- Doug met an instructor (Richard Barns) at the
El Tiro Gliderport (Northwest – by I-10, half way to pinal air park)
- Doug will contact them and invite them out to
our event.
- Doug will investigate options for having an
event out there.
- We could potentially do a joint meeting with
ASME. (We should invite them to our next event regardless)
OTHER SPEAKER OR
EVENT:
- Teacher said that they’re too busy to organize
something this time of year.
- Because of AIMS and the end of the year
- An event would still be good.
- We can do an event up on Mt Lemon….maybe
stargazing for families.
- Sara has a sleeping bag but no tent.
- We can get TAAA to turn out. RTeam Astronomy club be interested
too.
- A lot of members want to do something with
their kids.
- Terry White may be willing to give some talk on
Aerodynamics
AERIAL ROBOTICS
- Frank asked Globe highschool if they’d like to
get involved
- Bad time of year to start
- One teacher will post a flyer…..Maybe Frank could
fly a plane during an assembly.
- Flight testing/ fly a camera and send data. Test prop vehicle.
- Teachers can get a 200 classroom grant for
supplies.
- They become educator associates free!
- We still have airplanes and supplies from the
centennial of flight. We can send
some of that stuff to Globe.
- Globe is in the Phoenix area so maybe we can coordinate
with them.
- More camera tests and a redesign of the
powerplant
SECTION AWARDS
MEETING:
- We should have one.
- We don’t know who funds it.
- I’ll find out how that works.
- Assuming we fund it.
- We could take members out to dinner.
- Or we can have certificates made.
ACTION ITEMS:
- Matt to email out Student Section meeting
request.
- Matt to email officers a reminder about the
email newsletter
- Matt needs to call Ed Palanek about gunnery
range.
