Meeting Minutes for February 2006

 

Next meeting is Tuesday,March 7th.

El Parador at 6:00 PM

 

ATTENDEES: 

Matt Angiulo, Patrick Craine, Frank Manning, Doug May,

 

TREASURER:

  • Account Balance ~$2375.37 minus bank fees
  • Matt needs to be reimbursed for kids club expenses ~$125.00
  • Bought a smoke machine…..some wings for demonstrations.
  • Patrick suggests sitting down and making a better budget other then the official budget so we can more closely track our expenses.

 

KIDS CLUB:

  • Jan 21st went well despite cleaning mishap.
    • M.Angiulo cleaned the mess although scared Susan Brew.
    • Hopefully won’t become an issue.
  • Feb 18th is a Solar Weather and Astronomy session
    • TAAA will show up with telescopes
    • Steve Ratts and Melissa Williams from the Flandreau to organize
    • Matt A to support in Sara’s absence – Matt to get the key on.
  • March 25th is Mars - John Keller to teach
  • April 22nd is Rockets (with eggs).
    • It’ll cost about $200.00 total.
  • SMART will be coming up in late March early April.

 

DISTINGUISHED LECTURER

·        John McMasters (“Airplane Design; Past, Present, & Future”) has agreed to present his airplane talk on March 9th.

·        Matt to arrange for gifts.

·        Talking at PASM (5:00 – 8:00)

·        Refreshments/wandering around from 5-6,talk from 6-7, questions 7:30, loiter till 8.

·        Suggest finger foods.

·        PASM will give us the room for free.

·        Paleo might be the best talk

·        Maybe a joint meeting with ASME

o       Doug to get in touch with them….Matt to send Doug the flyer.

·        Phoenix section is interested.

·        AME flyers on campus

·        Sara to contact kids club and educator associates.

 

E-Week Mall Outreach Thing:

·        Feb. 18th 10-3 at Foothills Mall

·        We can have a booth if we’ll staff it.

·        Doug requested materials for all ages from Lisa Bacon

·        Balsa Gliders and flyers.

·        Doug can man the booth from 10-?

·        Craine take over until you get tired.

·        3 panel display Matt to get for Doug…arrange pick-up.

·        MATT TO GET CONTACT INFORMATION TO DOUG & RSVP.

·        Matt to get info on E-Week dinner.

 

WEBSITE:

  • Frank talked to a student that runs websites who would be willing to set

      us up with one…..8 bucks a month or 89 a year. It’d be hosted

      somewhere in Phoenix.  We’ll get our own domain name.

  • Frank to ask on support….contract is upcoming.
  • Site should be linked on national…..email that when finished.
  • Matt has pictures from Kids Club

 

NEWSLETTER:

  • We'll get the next Newsletter out this month
  • We need to ask for people to add our email address to their spam filter acceptance list.
  • Distinguished Lecturer article (Matt)
  • Picnic article (Pat Craine)
  • We still have the Wind tunnel and Build Space articles
  • Different types of articles from different chairs....try to focus
  • Sara to add boyscout article
  • Aerial Robotics article (Frank)
  • Solicit Pima for a very interesting article to add to a future newsletter (like contrails)

 

Tucson Soaring Club Event:

  • Doug met an instructor (Richard Barns) at the El Tiro Gliderport (Northwest – by I-10, half way to pinal air park)
  • Doug will contact them and invite them out to our event.
  • Doug will investigate options for having an event out there.
  • We could potentially do a joint meeting with ASME. (We should invite them to our next event regardless)
  •  

AERIAL ROBOTICS

  • Frank to tell about DL event.
  • Found a couple remote buildings that could be used for camera testing.
  • Continued Camera Tests.
  • Presentation to a bunch of eighth graders.
  • REMEMBER TO BRAG ABOUT THIS IN AWARD FORMS.

 

ACTION ITEMS:

  • Matt needs to call Ed Palanek about gunnery range.
  • Matt to ask specific questions regarding our specific events and our AIAA insurance coverage
  • Matt to find someone regarding GBU-15 that may want to volunteer with Pima guidance.
  • Matt to see about a permanent AIAA display at PASM.
