Meeting Minutes for December 2005

 

Next meeting is Tuesday, January 3rd.

 

ATTENDEES: 

Matt Angiulo, Maren McRae, Sara Falconer, Frank Manning, Patrick Craine, Doug May

 

TREASURER:

  • Section Budget was submitted.
  • Rebate Checks came in (about 2K)
  • Picnic reimbursement took place at meeting.
  • Account Balance ~$3028.37

 

KIDS CLUB:

  • One kid disappeared so we now have 27 total.
  • Session with Brian Ewenson went great.
    • Taught of the many advances that came out of the Space Program.
    • Sara still insists that Al Gore invented the internet.  Doug May claims that it had something to do with the military.
    • Doug suggested doing the Challenger missions there.
    • We’ll definitely do it again next year.
  • Jan 21st is a Solar Weather and Astronomy session
    • TAAA will show up with telescopes
    • Steve Ratts and Melissa Williams from the Flandreau to organize
    • Matt A to support in Sara’s absence – Matt to get the key on .
  • Next kids club on February 18th.
    • Session still in limbo.  Maybe we’ll do wind tunnel, math, & pendulum.
  • March 25th is Mars - John Keller to teach
  • April 22nd is Rockets (with eggs).
    • It’ll cost about $200.00 total.
  • SMART will be coming up in late March early April.
  • We’ll probably do a repeat of the 18th.

 

DISTINGUISHED LECTURER

·        Scott Miller (“World of Secret Flight”) has not responded to any requests.

·        John McMasters (“Airplane Design; Past, Present, & Future”) has responded with the following:

o       “at this point it looks like March 9 or 16 may be possible.  I’ll have to make this a ‘tentative” right now, but will get back to you as soon as possible for confirmation”.

·        William Chana (“Spirit of St. Louis” or “Wee Bee”) will be contacted if McMasters turns us down.

WEBSITE:

  • Mixer announcement is up there.
  • Sara is tired of Christmas music.
  • Mixer pictures are uploaded.
  • Frank is going to look into moving the site to the permanent AIAA webspace.

 

NEWSLETTER:

  • We'll get the next Newsletter out in January
  • Distinguished Lecturer article (Matt)
  • Picnic article (Pat Craine)
  • Softball Tournament article (Pat Haley)
  • We still have the Wind tunnel and Build Space articles
  • Different types of articles from different chairs....try to focus
  • - That’s what they grade us on.

 

HOLIDAY PARTY MIXER Picnic:

  • All students showed up and they beat us.
  • All had a great time.  We can do again cheap.
  • Need to get a better word out (newsletter).
  • Need a real professional team.
  • Maybe get some section managers out.
  • Skyboxs are all sold out.
  • Flyer didn’t get the word out.
  • We can do a mid day BBQ and Picnic instead.
  • Pat to arrange a softball tournament.
    • Student section already has a team.
    • We’ll come up with some prizes for the winning team.
  • Do something for Kids. Maybe Santa?
  • Should do it on Saturday December 3rd. (or the following week)
  • We should look at the membership list to see where to do the picnic.
  • Matt suggests Randolph Park.
  • Sara is sick of salad but not chips.

 

Tucson Soaring Club Event:

  • Doug met an instructor (Richard Barns) at the El Tiro Gliderport (Northwest – by I-10, half way to pinal air park)
  • Doug will investigate options for having an event out there.
  • We could potentially do a joint meeting with ASME. (We should invite them to our next event regardless)

 

  AERIAL ROBOTICS

  • 1st Camera test. Successful but there are some resolution questions.
  • Meeting with Dr. Fasel at UofA to keep up relations and preventing misunderstandings.

 

ACTION ITEMS:

  • Matt to find Sara’s Costco receipt.
  • Forward Dan’s info to Sara
  • Matt to find someone regarding GBU-15 that may want to volunteer with Pima guidance.
  • Matt to see about a permanent AIAA display at PASM.
